Using the calculators
Are the calculators really free?
Yes. Every calculator on OutdoorBudget is free to use, with no sign-up, account or payment.
Why are all results in US dollars?
Showing every result in one currency lets you compare trips and costs on the same basis. If you are in the UK or elsewhere, convert your local prices to US dollars at today’s exchange rate before you enter them. Typical UK prices in our guides are already converted.
Can I use UK units such as litres, kilometres and UK gallons?
Yes. Where it matters, our calculators accept miles or kilometres, US or UK (imperial) gallons, litres, MPG or L/100 km, and convert everything for you.
Do the calculators work on my phone?
Yes. Every tool is designed for phones, tablets and desktops. Once a page has loaded, the calculator keeps working even with a weak signal.
Can I save or share my results?
Use the “Copy results” button to paste a summary into a message, email or notes app, or the “Print” button to print or save a PDF. The Group Trip Expense Splitter also remembers your trip on the device you use.
How do I reset a calculator?
Press the “Reset” button below the form to go back to the example values.
Accuracy & advice
How accurate are the results?
The maths is exact, but the results are only as good as the numbers you enter. Our starting values are typical prices, and real prices change with location, season and provider. Treat the results as planning estimates and confirm costs before you book or buy.
Is this financial, legal or safety advice?
No. Our tools and guides are general information to help you plan. They are not financial, tax, legal, medical or safety advice. Read our Disclaimer for more.
Where do your typical prices come from?
We use published prices from operators, parks, agencies and retailers in the USA and UK, and round them into typical ranges. Prices change, so always check the latest figures with the provider.
I found a mistake. How do I report it?

Privacy & data
Do you store the numbers I type into the calculators?
No. The calculators run in your browser and your inputs are not sent to us. The Group Trip Expense Splitter saves your trip in your own browser’s storage on your device so it is still there next time – you can clear it at any time.
Do you use cookies?
We keep cookies to a minimum. Our Privacy Policy lists exactly what is used and why.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts on OutdoorBudget.

At the moment the website does not show adverts or use affiliate links. Our calculators are free either way, and payments never affect our results.
