It works like Splitwise or Tricount, but with no app to download, no account and no adverts. It works offline once the page has loaded, and your trip is saved in your own browser only – nothing is uploaded. How to use the trip expense splitter

Add everyone on the trip. Type each person’s name. Add or remove people at any time.
Add each expense: what it was for, the amount and who paid.
Tick who shares it. Everyone is ticked by default. Untick anyone who didn’t take part – for example, a non-driver on a fuel run or someone who skipped a tour.
Read the settle-up plan. It lists exactly who pays whom, using as few payments as possible.
Copy the results and paste them into your group chat, or print them.

The group spent $420.40. Sam went separately, so is not charged for fuel. After working out each person’s share, the balances are: Alex +$9.56, Sam −$2.70, Jordan −$46.43 and Taylor +$39.57. Instead of lots of small payments, the calculator settles everything in just three:

How the settle-up maths works

Share = Expense ÷ Number of people sharing it
Balance = Total you paid − Total of your shares
Positive balance = you get money back · Negative balance = you owe

The calculator then matches the person who owes the most with the person who is owed the most, repeats until everyone is at zero, and splits amounts to the exact cent (any leftover cent goes to the first person, so totals always match).

Tips for splitting group trip costs fairly

Agree the rules before you go. Will drivers pay for fuel? Will non-drinkers share the bar tab?
Log expenses as you go, not at the end when receipts are lost.
Use “split between” for costs that not everyone shares, such as activities or separate rooms.
Settle up within a week using bank transfer, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, Monzo or Revolut.
Put big shared costs on one card (campsite, rental, cottage) and let one person claim them.

How do I split expenses on a group trip?

Record every expense with who paid and who shares it. Each person’s balance is what they paid minus their share of every cost. People with a negative balance then pay people with a positive balance. The calculator does this for you and uses the fewest payments.

What if not everyone shares an expense?

Untick the people who didn’t take part in “Split between” for that expense. Only the ticked people share its cost.

Is my trip data uploaded anywhere?

No. Your names and expenses are stored only in your own browser on this device. Clearing your browser data or choosing “Start a blank trip” removes them.

Can I share the results with my group?
